Wherefore the people did complain to Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said to them, Why do you complain to me? why do you tempt the LORD?

But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.

And they tempted God in their heart by asking food for their lust.

Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I test the LORD.

And now we call the proud happy; yea, those who work wickedness are established; yea, those who tempt God are even delivered.

And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said to them, Would to God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would to God we had died in this wilderness!

Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not heard and obeyed my voice;

And the people spoke against God, and against Moses, Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loathes this light bread.

Jesus said to him, It is written again, You shall not tempt the Lord your God.

And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me. And he divided to them his living.

And Jesus answering said to him, It is said, You shall not tempt the Lord your God.

Now therefore why do you provoke God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Then Peter said to her, How is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and shall carry you out.

Neither should we provoke Christ, as some of them also provoked, and were destroyed by serpents.

You shall not tempt the LORD your God, as you tempted him in Massah.

And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibroth-hattaavah, you provoked the LORD to wrath.

When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.

But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed to the LORD.
