Is not this the word that we said to you in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.

Our fathers did not understand your wonders in Egypt; they did not remember the multitude of your mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.

And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, So that the people will not lose heart when they see war, and return to Egypt:

Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

And they said to them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because you have made our savor to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.

And Moses spoke so unto the children of Israel: but they did not listen to Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel slavery.

Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.

Therefore now, O LORD, take, I plead with you, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.

And it came to pass, when the sun rose, that God prepared a furious east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, so that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with you, you Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are, the Holy One of God.

And cried out with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with you, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I appeal to you by God, that you do not torment me.
