Be not rash with your mouth, and let not your heart be hasty to speak any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and you upon earth: therefore let your words be few.

And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken on me to speak to the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:

And he said to him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Perhaps there shall be thirty found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.

And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Perhaps ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.

And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on,

And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that you shall give me I will surely give the tenth to you.

But our God is in the heavens: he has done whatever he has pleased.

In the multitude of words there is no lack of sin: but he that restrains his lips is wise.

It is a snare to the man who devours that which is holy, and afterwards vows to make inquiry.

The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.

The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.

For a dream comes through the multitude of business; and a fool’s voice is known by a multitude of words.

For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also diverse vanities: but fear thou God.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Or if a soul swears, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knows of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these.

But when you pray, do not use vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard because of their much speaking.

In this way you shall pray: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

And he swore to her, Whatever you shall ask of me, I will give it to you, to the half of my kingdom.

For in many things we all offend. If anyone does not offend in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to control the whole body.

And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If you shall without fail deliver the children of Ammon into my hands,
