Hear, O Israel: You are to pass over Jordan this day, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to heaven,

And they said, Come now, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach to heaven; and let us make us a name, so that we will not be scattered abroad on the face of the whole earth.

And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said to him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what is become of him.

The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:

Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was as strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.

And they ascended by the south, and came to Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, When you have passed over Jordan into the land of Canaan;

Where shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people are greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there.

Then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and you shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves.

For you shall pass over Jordan to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God gives you, and you shall possess it, and dwell therein.

And it shall be on the day when you shall pass over Jordan to the land which the LORD your God gives you, that you shall set up great stones, and plaster them with plaster:

And I commanded you at that time, saying, The LORD your God has given you this land to possess it: you shall pass over armed before your people the children of Israel, all that are fit for war.

Now therefore listen, O Israel, to the statutes and to the judgments, which I teach you, in order to do them, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers gives you.

To drive out nations from before you greater and mightier than you are, to bring you in, to give you their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.

And it shall be, when the LORD your God shall have brought you into the land which he swore unto your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you great and desirable cities, which you did not build,

When the LORD your God shall bring you into the land to which you go to possess it, and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you;

Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare food for yourself; for within three days you shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God gives you to possess it.

Until the LORD has given your brethren rest, as he has given you, and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God gives them: then you shall return to the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD’S servant gave you on this side of the Jordan toward the sunrising.

Now therefore give me this mountain, of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fortified: if indeed the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.

And it came to pass, when the people left from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests carrying the ark of the covenant before the people;

That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, ceased, and were cut off: and the people passed over opposite Jericho.

And Joshua spoke to the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.

And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho.

And Joshua said to them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take you up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:
