They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those who are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, more than all that their fathers had done.

But have done evil more than all that were before you: for you have gone and made yourself other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and have thrust me behind your back:

For all the sins of Baasha, and the sins of Elah his son, by which they sinned, and by which they made Israel to sin, in provoking the LORD God of Israel to anger with their vanities.

Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my anger shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.

I have hated those who regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD.

For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their sculptured images.

A people that provoke me to anger continually to my face; that sacrifice in gardens, and burn incense upon altars of brick;

But they are altogether stupid and foolish: the tree trunk is a doctrine of vanities.

Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? are you not he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait for you: for you have made all these things.

Because my people have forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths in a way not built up;

Has a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit.

How shall I pardon you for this? your children have forsaken me, and sworn by those who are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and crowded into the harlots’ houses.

The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of those who dwell in a far country: Is not the LORD in Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their sculptured images, and with strange vanities?

And he put forth the form of a hand, and took me by a lock of my head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that looks toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provokes to jealousy.

Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said to them, You are not my people, there it shall be said to them, You are the sons of the living God.

Those who observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

And saying, Sirs, why are you doing these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach to you that you should turn from these vanities to the living God, who made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in it:

But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses says, I will provoke you to jealousy by those who are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.

As he says also in Hosea, I will call them my people, who were not my people; and her beloved, who was not beloved.

Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations they provoked him to anger.

They sacrificed to devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.

And turn not aside: for then would you go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.
