And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD has cursed.
And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
And she said, As the LORD your God lives, I do not have a cake, but a handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a jar: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
If I go out into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold those who are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they do not know.
So that the LORD could no longer bear it, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which you have committed; therefore is your land a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.
How the city sits solitary that was full of people! how she has become like a widow! She who was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how she has become one who pays tribute!
That which the creeping worm has left has the locust eaten; and that which the locust has left has the young locust eaten; and that which the young locust has left has the caterpiller eaten.
A fire devours before them; and behind them a flame burns: the land is like the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
I will bring it forth, says the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him who swears falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.
If you will not hear, and if you will not take it to heart, to give glory to my name, says the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because you do not take it to heart.
And he shall turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I do not come and strike the earth with a curse.
So that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat: because he has nothing left him in the siege, and in the scarcity, with which your enemies shall distress you in all your gates.
