And it shall be, that the city which is nearest to the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take a heifer, which has not been worked with, and which has not pulled in the yoke;

I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus; You have disciplined me, and I was disciplined, like a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn me, and I shall be turned; for you are the LORD my God.

This is the ordinance of the law which the LORD has commanded, saying, Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring you a red heifer without spot, in which is no blemish, and upon which a yoke never came:

At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister to him, and to bless in his name, until this day.

Then your elders and your judges shall come forth, and they shall measure to the cities which are round about him that is slain:

And the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer to a rough valley, which is neither plowed nor sown, and shall strike off the heifer’s neck there in the valley:

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient to death, even the death of the cross.

Now therefore make a new cart, and take two nursing cows, on which there has come no yoke, and tie the cows to the cart, and bring their calves home from them:
