Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house, and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of the sun.
And David took for himself more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he had come from Hebron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.
And all king Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold; none were of silver: it was nothing accounted of in the days of Solomon.
And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plentiful as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycamore trees that are in the valley for abundance.
And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom more than all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and sixty concubines; and begot twenty eight sons, and sixty daughters.)
Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did foreign women cause to sin.
And did he not make one? Yet had he much more of the spirit. And why one? That he might seek a godly offspring. Therefore be careful of your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.
He also who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word; and the concerns of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
Instruct those who are rich in this world, that they be not proud, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy;
But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
