Judges and officers shall you appoint for yourselves in all your gates, which the LORD your God gives you, throughout your tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment.

Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were for the external affairs over Israel, for officers and judges.

And you, Ezra, according to the wisdom of your God, that is in your hand, appoint magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all those that know the laws of your God; and teach those who know them not.

Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land.

You have heard that it was said by men of old, You shall not kill; and whoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

But I say to you, That whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whoever shall say to his brother, Good for nothing, shall be in danger of the council: but whoever shall say, You fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which he has given you.

You shall not pervert judgment; you shall not favor any person, neither take a bribe: for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous.

And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not listen to the priest that stands to minister there before the LORD your God, or to the judge, even that man shall die: and you shall put away the evil from Israel.

And you shall come to the priests the Levites, and to the judge that shall be in those days, and inquire; and they shall make known to you the sentence of judgment:

Then your elders and your judges shall come forth, and they shall measure to the cities which are round about him that is slain:

If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.

And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.
