All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counselors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, except of you, O king, he shall be thrown into the den of lions.

He lies in wait concealed as a lion in his den: he lies in wait to catch the poor: he catches the poor, when he draws him into his net.

The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD.

You therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the heathen: be not merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah.

They only consult to cast him down from his excellence: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.

And whoever does not fall down and worship, that he should be thrown into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counselors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was a hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor had the smell of fire come upon them.

And whoever does not fall down and worship shall the same hour be thrown into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and threw him into the den of lions. Now the king spoke and said to Daniel, Your God whom you serve continually, he will deliver you.

My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: seeing that before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, have I done no hurt.

O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim to Gilgal; that you may know the righteousness of the LORD.

The lion tore in pieces enough for his cubs, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with torn flesh.

Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him.

And immediately in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and took him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
