Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and threw him into the den of lions. Now the king spoke and said to Daniel, Your God whom you serve continually, he will deliver you.

And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah are too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.

He shall deliver you in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch you.

But I will deliver you in that day, says the LORD: and you shall not be given into the hand of the men of whom you are afraid.

Now if you be ready that at the time you hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if you do not worship, you shall be thrown the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God who shall deliver you out of my hands?

If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.

Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel, and delivered his servants who trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god except their own God.

And when he came to the den, he cried out with a sorrowful voice to Daniel: and the king spoke and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions?

All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counselors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, except of you, O king, he shall be thrown into the den of lions.

But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix’ office: and Felix, desiring to do the Jews a favor, left Paul bound.

For if I am an offender, or have committed anything worthy of death, I do not refuse to die: but if there are none of these things of which these accuse me, no man may deliver me to them. I appeal to Caesar.

But Festus, desiring to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Will you go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged concerning these things before me?

For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Do you desire then not to fear the authority? Do what is good, and you shall have praise from the same:

Who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
