And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beer-sheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.

The people of your holiness have possessed it but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down your sanctuary.

We are brought into confusion, because we have heard reproach: shame has covered our faces: for strangers have come into the sanctuaries of the LORD’S house.

And say, You mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys; Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places.

The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the altars of Bethel: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.

But do not seek Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and do not pass over to Beer-sheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nothing.

For thus Amos says, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.

But do not prophesy again any more at Bethel: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court.

Those who swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Your god, O Dan, lives; and, The way of Beer-sheba lives; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

I saw the Lord standing upon the altar: and he said, Strike the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: and wound them in the head, all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he of them who flees shall not flee away, and he of them who escapes shall not be delivered.

Because of the transgression of Jacob is all this, and because of the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem?
