Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, who are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

And he bought the hill Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver, and built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, after the name of Shemer, owner of the hill, Samaria.

Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

How the city sits solitary that was full of people! how she has become like a widow! She who was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how she has become one who pays tribute!

You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

Announce in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.

Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are in the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.

Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, says the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.

Those who swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Your god, O Dan, lives; and, The way of Beer-sheba lives; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, who say, The evil shall not overtake nor come upon us.

And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and you princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know justice?

And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men who are settled on their lees: who say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.

Of his own will he gave us birth with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

You have lived in pleasure on the earth, and in luxury; you have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

Casting all your cares on him; for he cares for you.

Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt without fear, after the manner of the Sidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in anything; and they were far from the Sidonians, and had no business with any man.
