For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.

Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away a house which he did not build;

If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my helper in the gate:

Happy is the man that has his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Neither shall you favor a poor man in his cause.

You shall not bend the judgment of your poor in his cause.

A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him who has it: wherever it turns, it prospers.

Do not rob the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loves gifts, and follows after rewards: they do not judge the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.

To turn aside the needy from obtaining justice, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproves in the gate, and turn aside the just for a worthless thing.

He that walks righteously, and speaks uprightly; he that despises the gain of oppressions, that shakes his hands from holding bribes, that stops his ears from hearing of blood, and shuts his eyes from seeing evil;

But these two things shall come to you in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon you in their perfection for the multitude of your sorceries, and for the great abundance of your enchantments.

Who justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come to pass that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory.

Because they have committed villainy in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, says the LORD.

To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,

Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:

I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me: for now, O Ephraim, you commit whoredom, and Israel is defiled.

And he who is courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, says the LORD.

And I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will slay all the princes thereof with him, says the LORD.

They hate him who rebukes in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks uprightly.

You who turn judgment to wormwood, and cease to do righteousness in the earth,

Hear this, you who swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

Their heads judge for reward, and their priests teach for wages, and their prophets divine for money: yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? no evil can come upon us.

So that they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asks, and the judge asks for a reward; and the great man, he speaks his mischievous desire: so they weave it together.

And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who turn aside the stranger from his right, and do not fear me, says the LORD of hosts.

Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain those who told beforehand of the coming of the Just One; of whom you have been now the betrayers and murderers:

Judges and officers shall you appoint for yourselves in all your gates, which the LORD your God gives you, throughout your tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment.

And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles have befallen them, that this song shall testify against them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their descendents: for I know their imagination which they intend to do, even now, before I have brought them into the land which I swore.

Behold, the wages of the laborers who have reaped your fields, which are by you kept back by fraud, cry out: and the cries of those who have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of Hosts.

You have condemned and killed the just; and he does not resist you.

Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spoke came by; to whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.

And his sons did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after money, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
