Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are in the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.

And he bought the hill Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver, and built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, after the name of Shemer, owner of the hill, Samaria.

Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away a house which he did not build;

They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.

For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, says the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffs at him.

I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.

Many bulls have surrounded me: strong bulls of Bashan have enclosed me.

The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of those that were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, do not marvel at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regards it; and there is one higher than they.

Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are at the head of the fat valleys of those who are overcome with wine!

Woe to those who join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place left, that they may dwell alone in the midst of the earth!

Come, they say, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow shall be like this day, and much more abundant.

Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?

Because you were glad, because you rejoiced, O you destroyers of my heritage, because you have grown fat like the heifer eating grass, and bellow as bulls;

Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe to them! for their day has come, the time of their visitation.

Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me, he has made me an empty vessel, he has swallowed me up like a dragon, he has filled his belly with my delicacies, he has cast me out.

For thus has the LORD of hosts said, Cut down trees, and build a siege mound against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is given over to oppression in the midst of her.

If you oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

Has oppressed the poor and needy, has plundered by violence, has not returned the pledge, and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination,

In you have they taken bribes to shed blood; you have taken interest and unjust gain, and you have greedily gained from your neighbors by extortion, and have forgotten me, says the Lord GOD.

Her princes in the midst of her are like wolves devouring the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain.

The people of the land have used oppression, and committed robbery, and have troubled the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.

In you have they lightly regarded father and mother: in the midst of you have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in you have they troubled the fatherless and the widow.

I will seek that which was lost, and bring back that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.

You shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.

And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for a harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink.

Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

Can two walk together, unless they are in agreement?

Seeing therefore that your trampling is upon the poor, and you take from him loads of wheat: you have built houses of cut stone, but you shall not dwell in them; you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink wine from them.

Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, who are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

Who drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who turn aside the stranger from his right, and do not fear me, says the LORD of hosts.

And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.

You shall not oppress a hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of your people, or of your strangers that are in your land within your gates:

The fruit of your land, and all your labors, shall a nation which you know not, eat up; and you shall be only oppressed and crushed always:
