But the centurion, desiring to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that those who could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land:

When a man’s ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing that Paul would be pulled in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.

And provide them animals, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe to Felix the governor.

Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.

And the next day we came to shore at Sidon. And Julius courteously treated Paul, and gave him liberty to go to his friends to refresh himself.

Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Unless these remain in the ship, you cannot be saved.

And the soldiers’ counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.

Three times was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, three times I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;
