To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before he who is accused meets the accusers face to face, and has liberty to answer for himself concerning the crime held against him.

And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke to him, saying, In this manner did your servant do to me; that his anger was kindled.

He that answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him.

He that is first in his own cause seems just; but his neighbor comes and examines him.

And when they bring you to the synagogues, and to magistrates, and powers, do not be anxious how or what thing you shall answer, or what you shall say:

Does our law judge any man, before it hears him, and knows what he does?

And when it was told me how the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent immediately to you, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before you what they had against him. Farewell.

And it be told you, and you have heard of it, and inquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is done in Israel:
