Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

It is enough for the disciple that he be like his master, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call those of his household?

And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with you, you Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are, the Holy One of God.

(Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was put into prison.)

And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.

And he released to them him that for sedition and murder was put into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.

But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees who believed, saying, That it was necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teaches all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and has polluted this holy place.

And they gave him audience until this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Take away such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

But this I confess to you, that according to the way which they call heresy, so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:

Nevertheless, that I be not further tedious to you, I pray you that you would hear us in your kindness a few words.

And when he came, the Jews who came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and brought many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.

Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived as a Pharisee.

But we desire to hear from you what you think: for concerning this sect, we know that everywhere it is spoken against.

Then the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with anger,

And set up false witnesses, who said, This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

For there must also be heresies among you, that those who are approved may be made known among you.

Being defamed, we appeal: we are made like the filth of the world, and are the refuse of all things until this day.

For this is pleasing, if a man for the sake of conscience before God endures grief, suffering wrongfully.
