And on a set day Herod, clothed in royal apparel, sat on his throne, and made an oration to them.

And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews who were of Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the people, and laid hands on him,

And the high priest Ananias commanded those who stood by him to strike him on the mouth.

And provide them animals, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe to Felix the governor.

And when it was told me how the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent immediately to you, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before you what they had against him. Farewell.

Who, when they came to Caesarea, and delivered the letter to the governor, presented Paul also before him.

I will hear you, said he, when your accusers have also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s judgment hall.

Because you may understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem to worship.

And when he was called for, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by you we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done to this nation by your providence,

About whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, desiring to have a judgment against him.

Then the high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him against Paul, and pleaded with him,

And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom, declaring to you the testimony of God.

And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
