Then certain of the wandering Jews, exorcists, took it upon themselves to call over those who had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We solemnly command you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.
Behold, you have driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from your face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that finds me shall slay me.
But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said to him, I adjure you by the living God, that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.
And cried out with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with you, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I appeal to you by God, that you do not torment me.
And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in your name, and he does not follow us: and we forbade him, because he does not follow us.
For if he who comes preaches another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if you receive another spirit, which you have not received, or another gospel, which you have not accepted, you might well put up with it.
And Joshua strictly instructed them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that rises up and builds this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.
And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had strictly directed the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eats any food until evening, that I may be avenged on my enemies. So none of the people tasted any food.
