When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but that rather a tumult was arising, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see to it yourselves.

Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? See to that yourself.

Then said Pilate to them, Take him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said to him, It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death:

Saying, This fellow persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.

Whom I perceived to be accused concerning questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of imprisonment.

For if I am an offender, or have committed anything worthy of death, I do not refuse to die: but if there are none of these things of which these accuse me, no man may deliver me to them. I appeal to Caesar.

But had certain questions against him about their own superstition, and about one Jesus, who was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.

Especially because I know you to be expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews: therefore I plead with you to hear me patiently.

Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which lead to questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

He is proud, knowing nothing, but craving questions and controversies about words, from which come envy, strife, insults, evil surmisings,

But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they produce disagreements.

But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and quarrels, and controversies about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
