Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were he that led out and brought in Israel: and the LORD said to you, You shall feed my people Israel, and you shall be a captain over Israel.

And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was clothed with a linen ephod.

And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.

And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in my own sight: and by the maidservants which you have spoken of, by them shall I be held in honor.

And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.

Now therefore so shall you say to my servant David, Thus says the LORD of hosts, I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:

And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looking out at a window saw king David dancing and playing: and she despised him in her heart.

And when he had removed him, he raised up for them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who shall fulfill all my will.

Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

But now your kingdom shall not continue: the LORD has sought a man after his own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be captain over his people, because you have not kept that which the LORD commanded you.

And Samuel said to him, The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, that is better than you.

And the LORD said to Samuel, How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill your horn with oil, and go, I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.

And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and also of a beautiful appearance, and pleasant to look upon. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.
