And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king saved us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he has fled out of the land for Absalom.

And David said to all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not otherwise escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and strike the city with the edge of the sword.

And they took Absalom, and threw him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.

And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why do you not speak a word of bringing the king back?

So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.

And Saul said, Thus shall you say to David, The king does not desire any dowry, but a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged on the king’s enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

For he put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD accomplished a great salvation for all Israel: you saw it, and rejoiced: why then will you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?
