And it came to pass one evening, that David arose from his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.
Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king’s valley: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called to this day, Absalom’s place.
Thus says the LORD, Write this man as childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his descendents shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.
