And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king’s sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.
And he said to him, Why do you, being the king’s son, look so thin from day to day? will you not tell me? And Amnon said to him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.
And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched from there a wise woman, and said to her, I pray you, pretend to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and do not anoint yourself with oil, but be as a woman that has a long time mourned for the dead:
Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends to him, Let a gallows be made fifty cubits high, and tomorrow speak to the king that Mordecai may be hanged on it: then go in merrily with the king to the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.
And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife to him, If Mordecai be one of the lineage of the Jews, before whom you have begun to fall, you shall not prevail against him, but shall surely fall before him.
For my people are foolish, they have not known me; they are stupid children, and they have no understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.
And Samuel said to Jesse, Are all your children here? And he said, There remains yet the youngest, and, behold, he keeps the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he comes here.
