Why have you despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from anything that he commanded him all the days of his life, except only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give you as wife: only be valiant for me, and fight the LORD’S battles. For Saul said, Let not my hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
And Saul said, I will give her to him, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Therefore Saul said to David, You shall this day be my son in law in one of the two.
And Saul said, Thus shall you say to David, The king does not desire any dowry, but a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged on the king’s enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
