So I stood upon him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not live after he was fallen: and I took the crown that was on his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them here to my lord.

Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

And he said to him, Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was a severe man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow:

And when they were opposed, and blasphemed, he shook his garments, and said to them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from this time on I will go to the Gentiles.

Therefore I testify to you this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.

Now we know that whatever things the law says, it says to those who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

That innocent blood be not shed in your land, which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance, and so blood be upon you.

And it shall be, that whoever shall go out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whoever shall be with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.

That the cruelty done to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, who slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, who aided him in the killing of his brethren.

And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the LORD, that has pleaded the cause of my reproach at the hand of Nabal, and has kept his servant from evil: for the LORD has returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent and talked with Abigail, to take her to him as wife.

And David said to Abishai, Do not destroy him: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD’S anointed, and be guiltless?
