Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained an equally precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ:
Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishermen.
And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus saw him, he said, You are Simon the son of Jonah: you shall be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
And be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
When I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice; and I am persuaded in you also.
Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, in agreement with the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is in harmony with godliness;
That the testing of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it is tried with fire, may result in praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
To you therefore who believe he is precious: but to those who are disobedient, the stone which the builders rejected, the same is made the head of the corner,
The elders who are among you I urge, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
By which are given to us exceedingly great and precious promises: that by these you may be sharers in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
