Therefore I write these things being absent, so that being present I need not use severity, according to the authority which the Lord has given me for edification, and not for destruction.
Therefore, though I wrote to you, I did not do it for the sake of the one who had done the wrong, nor for the sake of the one who suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear to you.
Even as it is fitting for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; seeing that both in my bonds, and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you are all sharers of my grace.
So having strong affection for you, we were willing to have imparted to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own souls, because you were dear to us.
