For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

No doubt but you are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.

It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search out their own glory is not glory.

Do you see a man wise in his own sight? there is more hope for a fool than for him.

Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.

The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank you, that I am not like other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not done through me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed,

Let such a one think this, that, just as we are in word by letters when we are absent, so will we be also in deed when we are present.

For not he who commends himself is approved, but he whom the Lord commends.

Do we begin again to commend ourselves? Or do we need, like some others, letters of recommendation to you, or letters of recommendation from you?

For we do not commend ourselves again to you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that you may have something to answer those who glory in appearance, and not in heart.
