Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.

And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD said, In Jerusalem will I put my name.

For I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel until this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.

So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was forty one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.

And they dwelt in it, and have built you a sanctuary therein for your name, saying,

If, when evil comes upon us, such as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in your presence, (for your name is in this house,) and cry unto you in our affliction, then you will hear and help.

Now do not be stiff-necked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves to the LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he has sanctified for ever: and serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his anger may turn away from you.

Also he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.

And he set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:

That your eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place of which you have said that you would put your name there; to hear and grant the prayer which your servant prays toward this place.

And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who has with his hands fulfilled that which he spoke with his mouth to my father David, saying,

But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.

For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.

And all the silver and gold that you can find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem:

An altar of earth you shall make unto me, and shall sacrifice thereon your burnt offerings, and your peace offerings, your sheep, and your oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come to you, and I will bless you.

Beware of him, and obey his voice, do not provoke him; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.

O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, listen and act; do not delay, for your own sake, O my God: for your city and your people are called by your name.

And the LORD said to Satan, The LORD rebuke you, O Satan; even the LORD that has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you: is not this a branch plucked out of the fire?

Then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there; there shall you bring all that I command you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which you vow unto the LORD:

But to the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even to his habitation shall you seek, and there you shall come:

And Samuel said to all the people, See him whom the LORD has chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.
