But even after we had suffered before, and were shamefully treated, as you know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God with much opposition.
For a long time therefore they remained speaking boldly in the Lord, who gave testimony to the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
But Paul said to them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have put us in prison; and now do they thrust us out privately? Certainly not; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance; as you know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
For which reason I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him until that day.
Beloved, when I applied myself to write to you of the common salvation, I felt it necessary to write to you and urge you that you should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints.
