For when David was up in the morning, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying,

And he struck Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the ground; even with two lines measured he to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And so the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought gifts.

And David was then in the stronghold, and the Philistines’ garrison was then at Bethlehem.

And there came some of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the stronghold unto David.

And the LORD spoke to Gad, David’s seer, saying,

Now the deeds of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Samuel the seer, and in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of Gad the seer,

And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king’s seer, and Nathan the prophet: for so was the commandment of the LORD by his prophets.

And I said, Should such a man as I flee? and who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.

​In the LORD I put my trust: how can you say to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?

But when they persecute you in this city, flee into another: for truly I say to you, You shall not have gone through all the cities of Israel, till the Son of man has come.

And David went from there to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said to the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray you, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.

And the prophet Gad said to David, Do not remain in the hold; depart, and go into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth.
