And I will set my face against you, and you shall be slain before your enemies: those who hate you shall reign over you; and you shall flee when none pursues you.
And the officers shall speak further to the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return to his house, so that his brethren’s heart does not faint as well as his heart.
The LORD shall cause you to be struck down before your enemies: you shall go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them: and shall be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I to the Reubenites and to the Gadites.
With whom the Reubenites and the Gadites have received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of the LORD gave them;
Now therefore go, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.
And he waited seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.
And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and those who were on the other side of the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
