And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, show yourself to Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.

And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

And Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. And there was a severe famine in Samaria.

Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of your servants, and of your people Israel, that you may teach them the good way in which they should walk, and give rain upon your land, which you have given to your people for an inheritance.

And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor dug; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

When he speaks forth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightnings with rain, and brings forth the wind out of his treasures.

Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? are you not he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait for you: for you have made all these things.

Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he has given you the former rain in proper measure, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.

Then I will give you rain in its season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

And also I have withheld the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one place was rained upon, and the place upon which it did not rain withered.

But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;

The LORD shall open to you his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand: and you shall lend to many nations, and you shall not borrow.

Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it did not rain on the earth for a period of three years and six months.

But the court which is outside the temple leave out, and do not measure it; for it is given to the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty two months.

These have power to shut heaven, so that it does not rain in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire.
