But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, It is the man of God, who was disobedient to the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD has delivered him to the lion, which has torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke to him.

For the saying which he cried out by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.

The altar also was torn, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.

For so was I instructed by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor go back by the same way that you came.

And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his neighbor by the word of the LORD, Strike me, I pray you. And the man refused to strike him.

Moreover the altar that was at Bethel, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he broke down, and burned the high place, and stamped it down to powder, and burned the grove.

Then he said, What inscription is that that I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the sepulcher of the man of God, which came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar of Bethel.

But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said to him, It does not belong to you, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for you have trespassed; neither shall it be for your honor from the LORD God.

Now the rest of the deeds of Solomon, first and last, are they not written in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of Iddo the seer who prophesied against Jeroboam the son of Nebat?

Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry to the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even until this day, that is the twenty third year, the word of the LORD has come unto me, and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking; but you have not listened.

And the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire to this city, and burn it with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.

But do not prophesy again any more at Bethel: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court.

Now therefore hear the word of the LORD: You say, Do not prophesy against Israel, and do not let your word fall against the house of Isaac.

For from the rising of the sun even to the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, says the LORD of hosts.

To be a memorial to the children of Israel, that no stranger, who is not of the descendents of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord shall not precede those who are asleep.

And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given to him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.

And there came a man of God to Eli, and said to him, Thus says the LORD, Did I plainly appear to the house of your father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh’s house?

And he said to him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honorable man; all that he says comes surely to pass: now let us go there; perhaps he can tell us our way that we should go.
