And when Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he gathered from the house of Judah and Benjamin a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom back to Rehoboam.
That there came certain from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even eighty men, having their beards shaven, and their clothes torn, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the LORD.
And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.
And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, they buried in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought from the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for a hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.
And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem to his mother’s brothers, and talked with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother’s father, saying,
And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem.
