Then Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said to him, Is all well? why did this mad fellow come to you? And he said to them, You know the man, and his communication.

He that lacks wisdom despises his neighbor: but a man of understanding holds his peace.

He is despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

The days of visitation have come, the days of recompense have come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of your iniquity, and the great hatred.

Then shall they deliver you up to be persecuted, and shall kill you: and you shall be hated by all nations for my name’s sake.

Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

He who hears you hears me; and he who despises you despises me; and he who despises me despises him that sent me.

And he spoke this parable to certain people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

Blessed are you, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.

Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoics, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? Others, He seems to be a presenter of strange gods: because he preached to them Jesus, and the resurrection.

And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear you again concerning this matter.

And as he thus spoke for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, you are beside yourself; much learning makes you mad.

For I will show him how great are the things he must suffer for my name’s sake.

For since in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom did not know God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe.

But we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block, and to the Greeks foolishness;

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Therefore let him who thinks that he stands take heed lest he falls.

But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

I have fed you with milk, and not with solid food: for until now you were not able to bear it, neither yet now are you able.

Now you are full, now you are rich, you have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God you did reign, that we also might reign with you.

For his letters, they say, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.

For you permit fools gladly, seeing that you yourselves are wise.

Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is offended, and I am not angry?

For we are glad, when we are weak, and you are strong: and this also we desire, even your perfection.

So then death works in us, but life in you.

By honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true;

He therefore that despises these things, does not despise man, but God, who has also given to us his Holy Spirit.

If you are insulted for the name of Christ, happy are you; for the spirit of glory and of God rests upon you: by them he is evil spoken of, but by you he is glorified.
