But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.
And the donkey said to Balaam, Am I not your donkey, upon which you have ridden ever since I was yours until this day? was I ever accustomed to do so to you? And he said, No.
At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hid these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them unto babes.
And said to him, Do you hear what these are saying? And Jesus said to them, Yes; have you never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings you have perfected praise?
And as Jesus passed away from there, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the place of collecting taxes: and he said to him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoics, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? Others, He seems to be a presenter of strange gods: because he preached to them Jesus, and the resurrection.
This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made you a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.
Listen, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those who love him?
