Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings have you established strength because of your enemies, that you might still the enemy and the avenger.

Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

Who frustrates the signs of the liars, and makes diviners madmen; who turns wise men backward, and makes their knowledge foolish;

The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?

I will also leave in the midst of you an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.

And the donkey said to Balaam, Am I not your donkey, upon which you have ridden ever since I was yours until this day? was I ever accustomed to do so to you? And he said, No.

At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hid these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them unto babes.

And said to him, Do you hear what these are saying? And Jesus said to them, Yes; have you never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings you have perfected praise?

And as Jesus passed away from there, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the place of collecting taxes: and he said to him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to contradict nor resist.

Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoics, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? Others, He seems to be a presenter of strange gods: because he preached to them Jesus, and the resurrection.

This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made you a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

For since in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom did not know God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe.

Now we have not received the spirit of the world but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God.

For his letters, they say, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the excellence of the power may be of God, and not of us.

Listen, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those who love him?
