Now these are the children of the province that went up out of the captivity, of those which had been taken away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had taken away to Babylon, and came back to Jerusalem and Judah, every one to his city;
So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the gatekeepers, and the temple servants, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.
Also of the temple servants, whom David and the princes had appointed for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty temple servants: all of them were mentioned by name.
They stayed by their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a curse, and into an oath, to walk in God’s law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the LORD our Lord, and his judgments and his statutes;
And the rulers of the people dwelt at Jerusalem: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts to dwell in other cities.
So the priests, and the Levites, and the gatekeepers, and the singers, and some of the people, and the temple servants, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities; and when the seventh month came, the children of Israel were in their cities.
