Furthermore David the king said to all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.

And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah are too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.

And you, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon you, that you should tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

And now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.

And David commanded to gather together the foreigners that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to cut fashioned stones to build the house of God.

And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.

And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies that ministered to the king by division, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the stewards over all the property and possessions of the king, and of his sons, with the officers, and with the mighty men, and with all the valiant men, unto Jerusalem.

Be careful now; for the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.

Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the audience of our God, keep and inquire after all the commandments of the LORD your God: that you may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever.

And give to Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for which I have made provision.

Then Solomon spoke to all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers.

And there are gathered to him vain men, the children of Belial, and have strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them.

For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

Thus says the LORD; Behold, I will bring back the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwelling places; and the city shall be built upon her own mound, and the palace shall remain according to its usual manner.
