Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building:

And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, your son Joseph comes to you: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat on the bed.

And moreover the king’s servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed.

You know how David my father could not build a house unto the name of the LORD his God because of the wars which were around him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.

Go and tell David my servant, Thus says the LORD, You shall not build me a house to dwell in:

Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD a hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and you may add to it.

Then he called for Solomon his son, and directed him to build a house for the LORD God of Israel.

And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build a house unto the name of the LORD my God:

And these are they whom David set over the service of song in the house of the LORD, after the ark had rest.

Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

​The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.

This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

How he swore to the LORD, and vowed to the mighty God of Jacob;

I will declare your name to my people: in the midst of the congregation will I praise you.

Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.

The glory of Lebanon shall come to you, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious.

Thus says the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that you would build for me? and where is the place of my rest?

How the Lord has covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger, and thrown down from heaven to the earth the beauty of Israel, and not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger!

And he said to me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcasses of their kings in their high places.

Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made with them five more talents.

Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will you build for me? says the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?

You shall be sure to set him king over you, whom the LORD your God shall choose: one from among your people shall you set king over you: you may not set a stranger over you, which is not your brother.

That his heart be not lifted up above his people, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.
