And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I plead with you, take away the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.
And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very angry, because he had committed folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter; which thing ought not to be done.
And I, where shall I make my shame go? and as for you, you shall be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray you, speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you.
And David’s heart struck him after he had numbered the people. And David said to the LORD, I have sinned greatly in what I have done: and now, I plead with you, O LORD, take away the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.
And he said to them, What advice do you give that we may return an answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that your father did put upon us?
I acknowledged my sin unto you, and my iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have transgressed against the LORD your God, and have spread your ways among the strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed my voice, says the LORD.
Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say to him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we return the sacrifices of our lips.
And Samuel said to Saul, You have done foolishly: you have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which he commanded you: for now would the LORD have established your kingdom over Israel for ever.
Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do you harm, because my soul was precious in your eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.
