And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an army surrounded the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, Alas, my master! what shall we do?

If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we remain sitting here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us give ourselves up to the army of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said to them, Behold, because the LORD God of your fathers was angry with Judah, he has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage that reaches up to heaven.

All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that whoever, whether man or woman, shall come to the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days.

Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and let them fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.

The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plentiful in mercy.

Our fathers did not understand your wonders in Egypt; they did not remember the multitude of your mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.

Great are your tender mercies, O LORD: revive me according to your judgments.

But there is forgiveness with you, that you may be feared.

Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plentiful redemption.

A righteous man regards the life of his animal: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he stands; from his place shall he not move: yea, one shall cry out to him, yet he cannot answer, nor save him out of his trouble.

I was angry with my people, I have polluted my inheritance, and given them into your hand: you showed them no mercy; upon the elderly have you very heavily laid your yoke.

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return to the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of your holiness and of your glory: where is your zeal and your strength, the pleading of your sympathy and of your mercies toward me? are they restrained?

I will mention the loving kindnesses of the LORD, and the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD has bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel which he has bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.

But though he causes grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.

Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we do not perish?

And he prayed to the LORD, and said, I pray you, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before to Tarshish: for I knew that you are a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and are sorry for the evil.

Who is a God like you, who pardons iniquity, and passes by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he does not retain his anger for ever, because he delights in mercy.

O LORD, I have heard your speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive your work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

For I am in a dilemma between the two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
