The name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife, Naomi; and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem in Judah. Now they came to the fields of Moab and remained there.

So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).

“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from everlasting, From the ancient days.”

And there was a young man from Bethlehem in Judah, of the family of Judah, who was a Levite; and he was sojourning there.

So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land was quiet for eighty years.

Then Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died; and she was left with her two sons.

Then both Mahlon and Chilion also died, and the woman was left without her two children and her husband.

Now Naomi had a kinsman of her husband, a mighty man of excellence, of the family of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz.

Then Boaz said to the elders and all the people, “You are witnesses today that I have acquired all that belonged to Elimelech and all that belonged to Chilion and Mahlon from the hand of Naomi.

Now there was a certain man from Ramathaim-zophim from the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.

Now David was the son of the Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, whose name was Jesse, and he had eight sons. And Jesse was old in the days of Saul, advanced in years among men.

And Israel and the Philistines arranged themselves in battle lines, battle line against battle line.
