For, behold, the wicked bend the bow, They make ready their arrow upon the string To shoot in darkness at the upright in heart.

Flash forth lightning and scatter them; Send out Your arrows and confuse them.

He sent out His arrows, and scattered them, And lightning flashes in abundance, and threw them into confusion.

Your arrows are sharp; The peoples fall under You; Your arrows are in the heart of the King’s enemies.

He has bent His bow like an enemy; He has set His right hand like an adversary And killed all that were desirable to the eye; In the tent of the daughter of Zion He has poured out His wrath like fire.

Sun and moon stood in their lofty places; They went away at the light of Your arrows, At the brightness of Your flashing spear.

You went forth for the salvation of Your people, For salvation with Your anointed. You crushed the head of the house of the wicked To lay him bare from thigh to neck. Selah.

¶‘I will heap calamities on them; I will exhaust My arrows on them.

If I sharpen My flashing sword, And My hand takes hold on judgment, I will render vengeance on My adversaries, And I will repay those who hate Me.

‘I will make My arrows drunk with blood, And My sword will devour flesh, With the blood of the slain and the captives, From the long-haired leaders of the enemy.’

Since it is right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,

for they poured out the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. They deserve it.”

and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Master, holy and true? Will You not judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”
