For the redemption price for their soul is costly, And it ceases forever—

Or, ‘Give me escape from the hand of the adversary,’ Or, ‘Redeem me from the hand of the ruthless men’?

¶Where are Your former lovingkindnesses, O Lord, Which You swore to David in Your faithfulness?

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
