So Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The days of the years of my sojourning are 130; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained to the days of the years that my fathers lived during the days of their sojourning.”

But Barzillai said to the king, “How long have I yet to live, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?

“My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, And come to an end without hope.

Man is like a breath; His days are like a passing shadow.

“With reproofs You chasten a man for iniquity; You consume as a moth what is precious to him; Surely every man is vanity. Selah.

¶Surely men of low degree are merely vanity and men of rank are a lie; In the balances they go up; They are together lighter than a breath of vanity.

Remember what my span of life is; For what vanity You have created all the sons of men!

So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.

“Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher, “Vanity of vanities! All is vanity.”

Thus I turned to all my works which my hands had done and the labor which I had labored to do, and behold, all was vanity and striving after wind, and there was no advantage under the sun.

All the nations are as nothing before Him; They are counted by Him as non-existent and utterly formless.

Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.

But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
