¶Be gracious to me, O Yahweh, for I am in distress; My eye is wasted away from grief, my soul and my body also.
My eye has wasted away with grief; It has become old because of all my adversaries.
My eye has wasted away because of affliction; I have called upon You every day, O Yahweh; I have spread out my hands to You.
My flesh and my heart fail, But God is the rock of my heart and my portion forever.
Because of this our heart is faint; Because of these things our eyes are dim;
Yet our eyes were spent, Looking for help was vanity; In our watching we have watched For a nation that could not save.
¶There were those who inhabited darkness and the shadow of death, Prisoners in affliction and irons,
For I have been stricken all day long And reproved every morning.
Which my lips uttered And my mouth spoke when I was in distress.
For our soul has sunk down into the dust; Our body cleaves to the earth.
“My eye has also grown dim because of grief, And all my members are as a shadow.
“He brought me forth also into a broad place; He rescued me, because He delighted in me.
¶Yahweh has rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.
¶I pursued my enemies and overtook them, And I did not turn back until they were consumed.
