“I am a laughingstock to my friends, The one who called on God and He answered him; The righteous and blameless man is a laughingstock.

“They have opened their mouth wide at me; They have struck me on the cheek in reproach; They have massed themselves against me.

“I too could speak like you, If your soul were in the place of my soul. I could compose words against you And shake my head at you.

As for me, I have become a reproach to them; They see me, they wag their head.

Let the lying lips be mute, Which speak arrogantly against the righteous With lofty pride and contempt.

You make us a byword among the nations, A laughingstock among the peoples.

Thus says Yahweh, the Redeemer of Israel and its Holy One, To the despised One, To the One abhorred by the nation, To the Servant of rulers, “Kings will see and arise, Princes will also bow down, Because of Yahweh who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen You.”

He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

“Against whom do you jest? Against whom do you open wide your mouth And stick out your tongue? Are you not children of transgression, Seed of lying,

And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

He was saying, “Leave; for the girl has not died, but is asleep.” And they began laughing at Him.

And after they had mocked Him, they took the purple robe off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they *led Him out to crucify Him.

And those passing by were blaspheming Him, shaking their heads, and saying, “Ha! You who are going to destroy the sanctuary and rebuild it in three days,

Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and were scoffing at Him.

And Herod with his soldiers, after treating Him with contempt and mocking Him, dressed Him in a bright robe and sent Him back to Pilate.
